When our world changes around us it is common for the stress to affect our mental health. The pandemic has brought quite a bit of change and new stress to everyone, and its okay to acknowledge that. In the midst of physical distancing and quarantines to the disappointment of cancelled events it is important now more than ever to practice self care. Here are some ways to practice self care during the pandemic:

  • Create a routine and stick to it daily. Try to incorporate consistent meal times, physical activity, study time, and sleep.
  • Stay connected with your friends and loved ones. Video calls, texting, and social media can help keep you connected to friends you might not be able to see in person yet.
  • Find hobbies or activities that help to calm your mind when you feel anxious.
  • Limit your exposure to news sources and social media if you find they are making you feel anxious. Taking a social media break can help alleviate some of the stress that the news can bring.
  • Be gentle with yourself. If you’re not feeling productive enough remember that these are unprecedented times and it’s ok to take it easy.
  • If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by feelings of loneliness, helplessness, depression or anxiety tell a trusted adult so that they can help you find professional help, if needed.
